Happy 4th of July!
I'm grateful for our freedoms (the ones remaining) and for the people who paid with their lives for those freedoms. I am!
But, frankly, I'm no longer what I'd consider 'patriotic.' (Gasp!)
No, our Country and it's government with its corrupt F.D.A, and E.P.A. (and its other lettered groups) and its hospitals which kill babies and schools which ban God from attending and teach unbiblical lifestyles--well, I'll pledge my allegiance to God, thank-you.
He's the only One who's got it right 100% of the time.
But again (lest you misunderstand) I am grateful for the freedoms we still have and for those people who paid for them.
And I'm thankful for you blog followers who read of my good and bad or sad journeys year following year. You are like an audience watching me on even my most normal days, inspiring me to behave myself rather than royally blowing it with a lousy attitude when times get rough.
So thanks. I need all the help I can get.

My latest gripe against the E.P.A.? Kristi wrote about it here. Just add it to a long list.... Sigh.

Yesterday I finally carried up our air-conditioner from the basement. The dream of not needing it this summer proved to be just that--a dream. But oh, God bless the person who invented air-conditioning! :)

Think we haven't lost any freedoms? Oh my, think again!
Our privacy and rights have been altered.
We're being forced to have our kids vaccinated.
Monsanto has all but removed our right to eat non-genetically-modified food and is on a mission to do away with all but their seeds.
Our rights to grow organic foods to sell or even for personal use are under attack.
These are just off the top of my head. There are many 'smaller' rights being taken away. One example: a dear elderly friend in California had a small pond on her property for 30 years then poof! She was forced by local government to either build a fence around it lest any children fall in, or have it filled-in. A widow, she didn't have the thousands of dollars it would have cost to fence in the pond in which her now-adult children had swam as kids--all without drowning, neighborhood kids included.
So tragically, she had it filled-in with dirt, then moved away soon after. I don't blame her--I loved that pond as a teenager when her daughter and I swam in it and went around it in their paddle boat.
That kind of thing is happening everywhere and frankly makes me mad.
Don't get me started.

I agree completely about patriotism.
And just yesterday said that I was in love with the person who invented the A/C. What did we ever do without it?!
Coming from the land of HOT, I often wonder the same thing...HOW DID ANYONE live here before AC??? Especially in layers of long dresses and long sleeves and high necklines?? It gave more meaning to what fainting couches might have been needed for, after we moved here!! We usually have to have AC on from March through Oct. And then a couple weeks, or maybe less after we need AC, we need heat, almost no days a year to comfortably have the house open. But it is usually green and pretty, that at least!!

Yup, I pretty much feel the same way. So Happy 4th... and I'll still happily take the day off with everyone else. :)
No matter what we think of government agencies, or politicians, we live in the best country in the world. we are free to practice any religion we choose and to voice opposition without fear. It doesn't get better than that.

I've lost no freedoms and have no fear of ever doing so. I have nothing to hide.
Happy Birthday America! Many give their lives just trying to get to you.

Thanks, Everyone, for stopping by on your 4th of July to leave comments here. I appreciate them.
NancyR and Marie--I added a few more details to the end of my original post as to why I no longer consider myself to be patriotic. There's more, but it's a bit more of an explanation.
Thanks again, All.....Debra
I think we can blame the law-suit happy public and the lawyers/lobbyists for many of the regulations that have been put in place. We can grow all of the organic food we want for ourselves. The regulations are directed at selling "organic" foods that might not be organic. We have to have regulations, but I agree that the government has created regulations that are ridiculous.
NancyR--actually? Growing our own truly organic food in the future may not be an option, that is, unless we keep using our own seeds exclusively or 'go underground' and trade seeds with others we trust. Monsanto is going after the entire seed industry so only their GMO seeds will be available. They're trying to make it illegal to use any other types, citing that plants grown from non-GMO seeds will attract insects which can wipe-out whole crops and carry disease, as well. They've made a lot of headway, actually, and have been able to shut down certain farms and commercial seed producers. And this is only the beginning. Really, it's scary.
And whoever is to blame for ridiculous regulations, it's still a fact that our government has adopted too many of these and we are slowly being regulated to death, not even noticing the change in our freedoms. It's all done slowly and methodically.
Again, I must say I will not pledge my allegiance to a Country that is so opposed to God and His principles, no matter how many freedoms we still have. And it's also good to remember we're not the only Country to have freedoms and we're also a nation not even mentioned in Biblical End Times. There's a reason for that and I'm thinking someday soon we'll all find out way--and tremble.
And that's all I'll say for now... Debra
