So! Yesterday Tom and I used-up the rest of the movie gift card Naomi gave us way back in November and saw The Avengers at our nearby theater. As usual, only six other people watched with us, too, so gotta love that, not that we could've even heard any extra noise, given all the film's action noise blasts! (I did come home with a slight headache, yet that could be because Tom insists we sit up front so we'll feel like We Are There, which means our heads remain pulled back for two hours.) Alas.
But anyway, though the movie had all the typical people-and-debris-exploding-everywhere scenes, it contained powerful Life Lessons, also.
I mean, there's one part (I don't think this would qualify as a spoiler, really) where the heroes-- who are supposed to save the world--are all arguing, pointing fingers and mocking and criticizing each others' weaknesses. And while they're in all that foolish strife, the bad-guy-world-destroyers sneak-up on them and wreak havoc.
Oh! Made me instantly think of why we Christians fail so miserably, what with the way so many criticize mega-churches and evangelists ('tel' and otherwise) and any new kind of ministry that appears in our services and the general division over doctrines and how, when and where we gather for meetings and shades of differences we each read into Bible verses and -- on and on, ad nauseam (literally).
Reminded me also of the folly of asking, "Why isn't God giving me the peace He promised in the Bible?" when daily we complain about how others are messing-up (Christian and non), insisting weee are right, arguing about inconsequential things and pushing real, godly love and acceptance toward others far down the What's Vital List.
Well, duh.
Anyway, I'm glad a kazillion people have watched The Avengers and I can only hope they caught the whole strife=weakness, but unity = power thing. I really hope the lessons go deep, creating a life-altering, lasting impact.

You know I don't see Christians agree on much of anything. The pastor family across the street let boys stay over with their girls. Hug and kiss in their pjs in the morning outside the front door. None of my business. I have learned a long time ago. But...what does the bible say? yep. A few church members said it was wrong split the church and the 25 years the pastor had been in this church turned into a we are leaving we are mad. You cannot tell us what to do.
Now....this is just an example of what I have seen for years. Not just this example but many other kinds of things are handled this way. Seems to me we all should be accountable at some point for scripture and yet being to critical isn't good. I have no answers I only know people are out going and blatant with their wrong doings and that can't be right.
