Free Surprise Plants and The Middle

(Daisies found two years ago, tiny, in the lawn.)

"... you will eat from vineyards and olive groves you did not plant--then when you eat and are satisfied, be careful that you do not forget the Lord, who brought you ... out of the land of slavery."   ... Deuteronomy 6:11,12

One of my favorite things in this whole world? (Now calm down, this will excite probably just two of you. heh.). It's when, in Springtime, I walk around my yard (wherever that yard may be) and discover sweet green seedlings which I did not plant, myself. Sometimes ones I recognize, other times they only look like something non-weed-like and worth the gamble.

                                      (Cilantro that reseeded itself.)

Oh, that makes me happy. Quickly I grab my trusty bucket, fill it with potting soil, peat moss and compost, then fill a clay or plastic pot with the mixture. Next, I grab a regular fork then carefully uproot the seedling and place it into the pot.

(Potted all these from around the yard.)

Free plants. From God. That's how I see them and it's because of such little gratitudes that I feel blessed every single day.

(This guy may be a weed, but he's soft like lamb's ears and that's what matters.)  :)

"And be ye thankful ..."

Now, I confess, it took me awhile to warm up to the show, The Middle. But for the last couple years? Tom and I have loved it.

It's scarily true-to-life at times (you can tell that the writers do have families of their own. You can't make up half that stuff.) and what memories of Life With a Child it brings back! Tom and I watched a Netflix disc with 3 episodes last night and laughed till we cried. Or maybe that was just me crying, but Tom did laugh a lot. :)

(Oh, and he says a co-worker told him he has a daughter exactly like Sue, which delighted my very soul and made me want to meet her.)

Afterward, Tom and I wondered how such a decent, fun, family show ever made it to network tv in this (less-than-saintly)century. But however it happened, we're thankful that it did. We appreciate anything which reminds us that a sense of humor can help a family distinguish between the things which matter--and those which do not.

And anything that helps us all in this 'stressed-to-impress world' calm down, is a good thing.

Does anyone else here enjoy watching The Middle?

I agree, the show is such a tearjerker much of the time. Sue is especially precious. The mother, played by Patricia Heaton, is an active Christian. Love it!

Mercy..will have to come back later when I have more time to read the links! Thanks.

As to free plants...very nice. However, cilantro? Really? Well, not everyone is deathly allergic to the stuff...gave me the greatest scare of my life in a restaurant years back. My throat almost went totally closed off!! Yes, I still eat in Mexican restaurants...but I do ask!!

You are so much fun! My daughter found some old pots in the corner of our garage. She brought them out and set them on the deck. A few days later we noticed little green leaves in one of the pots that still had soil in it from last year. I looked closer and nastursiums are growing. They are one of my favorite flowers. Last year, I had a planter that started sprouting in the spring. My friend said they were weeds. Well, I let it grow and those "weeds" had the prettiest purple flower on them. I love finding pretty flowers around my yard. Gifts from the Lord!

I love Love LOVE Sue Heck! I wish she had been my high school friend. Mostly because she is nothing at all like me. I hate to join things, don't like trying new things, and would never enter a contest to when a trip to Florida, because I have no desire to go there. So maybe she would have stretched me some.
Now I'm going out to pick some peonies, which I did not plant, and which faithfully return each year because I do a whole lot of nothing for them.

I think the one pot is Mullen.
My friend makes tea with it.
Here in Montana it grows wild.

Love to watch The Middle. I agree, it is very realistic. If you like The Middle, try out Malcolm In the Middle. It is on Netflix streaming. It is funny, too.

Anonymous--yes! Many shows are tearjerkers. I think Sue is my favorite character and years ago I read about Patricia Heaton--I think she'd be fun to know in person!

Elizabeth--don't worry. I just grow cilantro because it's a beautiful plant. We don't actually eat it. :)

Judy--oh yes! A friend like Sue could do us all some good, indeed. :) She's very cool.

Robin--you are fun, also! :) And thanks for sharing your plant stories--loved them!

Reading Between The Lines--oh thanks! I'll have to look up mullen and read more about it. :)

Miss Dishywoo--oh yes! We ued to watch Malcolm in the Middle all the time. Such a funny show. (I can still see their sad, sorry front yard in my mind! heh.)

Thanks, Everyone! Blessings, Debra
