These past weeks I've sat out here and tried to convince myself that Heaven's air will be even more gorgeous, but I'm not quite there yet. Autumn light! It mesmerizes me.
Even our Dutch couple look happier lately, deeper in love with each other and Life:
On bright, blowy days like this, Tom and I play with ideas, such as, buying the house for sale beside our neighbors, Robin and Paul, a house built from the same kit as ours back in 1930:
... ... and then use it as a guest house, saving one room for storage of all that too-big stuff in Tom's room. Though of course, he's more practical and would prefer to rent it out for profit--our payments would probably be just around $175 per month, then only taxes after about a year.
But me? My dreams always loom more ethereal. I'd casually, over time, paint the walls golden colors, buy pretty curtains, furnish the rooms with vintage furniture found at (inexpensive) estate sales and basically play like a lazier version of Nicole Curtis. (I watched a ton of her shows yesterday. Be still my retro home-loving heart!)
I'd make that little blue house comfortable for our few-and-far-between guests and for myself, also, for it could be my pretty getaway place, somewhere to sit in silence and drink coffee beside a sunny window (though yeah, I've already got that here). I'd line a wall with books, too, and place a comfy chair and floor lamp in a corner.
The yard is about the only thing that wouldn't need much work, just upkeep, but not ol' Debra 'upkeeping it'. No, she'd hire a weekly service.
Happy sigh.
Again, I'm only dreaming. I just know that some of you can't wait till you finish reading so you can leave sensible, don't-be-crazy comments.
But please don't do that, not to me or anyone else who's been nipped by Autumn's golden, anything-can-happen touch. Our dreams keep us young and our hearts, happy, and it would be tragic to snatch that away from anyone.
We all need and deserve a safe place to share wild, if-only dreams, a place where no one will dash the cold water of common sense all over them. I'd like this blog to be mine. :)
So what are you dreaming about on this gorgeous autumnal day? Hmm?

Just wanted to tell you that I really enjoy your blog. What a blessing you are!
When you mentioned having a 'quiet spot' for morning coffee, I suddenly flashed back to a rather curious arrangement an older couple had. There were two houses on the property: his childhood home and their brick ranch. The older home looked well kept and lived in and I couldn't for the life of me figure why...Turns out the mister kept the house as it was when his mother died and went over each morning to have his coffee and again the afternoon to read his paper while the missus gave piano lessons! It pleased me to think of that house being USED even if not lived in.
So if I can dream autumn dreams along with you, I'd love to have Granny's house open and a place for us to go sit and be at peace as we were in her lifetime. Alas, the gate is wired with barbed wire and someone went in and trashed the house and even though I am part owner I can't do anything without permission of two unwilling parties...So there it sits. But in my dreams, I'd go off up there and sit on the porch and sip coffee and remember the quiet times with Granny, not in a wishing her back sort of way but just to soak in some of that wisdom and peace that she always imparted.
Lois--thank-you so much! That's very sweet of you to say and I appreciate it.
Terri--oh my! I looooved your stories more than I can say. Thank-you for sharing them! And yes! Your autumn dream is absolutely perfect. I'd even like to go there with you in my mind.:) What a sweet, sweet thing!
Thanks, Ladies! ... Debra
Debra, I'd never discourage you from dreaming about a special getaway. I don't know why, but I'm in love with all things cottage. I dream about building a cozy retirement nest for hubby and me. Complete with painted beadboard, rustic beams, and salvaged wood floors. I think it's good for us to hold on to our dreams. It's a sign that we have hope for the future! Dream on!!
You keep on dreamin' Debra. It's like window shopping....all the enjoyment without the work or expense. A vacation in your head. Sanity, sometimes. :)
