Not For Teenagers Only

Okay. I've always known I was weird. Different. But as a child growing-up in church until this very day at 53, my favorite sermons have always been the tough ones. The hard-hitting, tell-it-like-it-is, challenging ones. The ones which make me want to jump up off the church bench, burst out the door and start living right.

Not the ones whose end-of-the-story moral is, "Life is soo hard....waaa... Let's just cry and pat each other on the back and think about how wonderful Heaven will be."

Uh, no.

Nope, this, below, is the kind of thing I've loved to hear probably since I was 12. I hope some of you enjoy the challenge of this, too:

"Northland College (NZ) principal John Tapene has offered the following words from a judge who regularly deals with youth.
"Always we hear the cry from teenagers 'What can we do, where can we go?'
... My answer is, "Go home, mow the lawn, wash the windows, learn to cook, build a raft, get a job, visit the sick, study your lessons, and after you've finished, read a book."
"Your town does not owe you recreational facilities and your parents do not owe you fun. The world does not owe you a living, you owe the world something. You owe it your time, energy and talent so that no one will be at war, in poverty or sick and lonely again."
"In other words, grow up, stop being a cry baby, get out of your dream world and develop a backbone, not a wishbone. Start behaving like a responsible person. You are important and you are needed. It's too late to sit around and wait for somebody to do something someday. Someday is now and that somebody is you...""

Wow. And this is so not just for teenagers. So not.

Love. this.

I have always tried to teach this to my children. When you don't have much money to go and do things, you find things to do that don't cost money!

Thanks for the link to Sara's blog. Love it!

Thank you for the double dose of inspiration...and much thought afterwards. I cannot tell you how many times since especially your Cruse wedding breakup post,I have been reviewing my thoughts. So many good points in a row. You always keep me on my toes. :) I guess that is cause I need must need someone to remind me to think good thoughts and do good things. God elected you! You always come to lessons and thoughts on life on a slight angle differently than I would think of them and it zings me awake!! :-) As in the words in the old V-8 commercial I want to say..thanks,...I needed that! :-)
Sarah... [[ or was that the old Hawaiian Punch commercial??? :-) :-) ]] ...another senior moment!!
