But What Can We Do?

Nationally? It's been another rough week, one bad enough to make us want to hide/stay angry/run to the addiction of our choice.

But what if we did this?

("Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good." Romans 12:21)

Instead of wilting into our couch because of all the rampant evil out there, how about if we stood up and did all the good that we, personally, can? 

What if we overcame the evil we see online or tv by giving away some things? By spreading kind words, thoughtful deeds and meal invitations? By praying for the violence-spreading-idiots as well as those they've hurt?

By listening to others or catching-up on all those emails/phone calls/comments/private messages we've procrastinated sending? By releasing what we'd chosen not to forgive? 

By sitting with a neighbor or mowing their lawn or carrying their trash can back to their house from the curb? By volunteering to walk their dog?

By gently teaching what we have learned to do? By paying someone's bill or mailing them a book or giving them a ride?

Oh, how tempting to let the reports of evil wash over us, paralyze us into doing nothing and--without meaning to--allow evil to keep flowing. But how much better to stand against that wave and say, "No! You'll not knock me over. Not this time."

... and then reach over to help another person stand, with arms entwined, two standing stronger than one.

I reread 40 Days In Heaven online again this week. What a reassuring comfort this book is and how incredible to come away feeling as though I spent a couple hours in Heaven, myself!

The words/happenings described in that book have helped calm my heart in the midst of the growing division I'm seeing. All that we experience or see or feel on Earth will be made up to us in Heaven. All the pain will be worth our new life there. All of it.

Tom and I watched My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 and--aside from a few innuendos--enjoyed it much.
