Remembering

A gorgeous tree on our street.

*****
Yesterday before the clouds lifted, I walked to 7-11 and bought bananas and a small yogurt then went a different way home where oh! An elderly man walking along with his dog stopped to chat. While I patted the dog's head, the man said his kids traveled all the way to Ohio to pick-up this dog from a shelter as a companion for him. I told him his dog was sweet and had such soulful eyes.

He said, "Soulful? I don't think I've heard that before." I told him, "It's like you can look into his eyes and see deep into his soul and know what he's thinking."

The man said, "I like that! And it's true." He told me he'd enjoyed talking with me, I told him the same, and I turned to go back down sidewalks heaving upward with roots beneath them and houses leaning wearily in the mist, smiling, and lighter of spirit after a rough morning.

I do so enjoy old men who go out walking with their dogs.

And in the afternoon when I read this online from God Calling, I smiled at its truth:

"All your movements, your goings and comings, controlled by Me. Every visit, all blessed by Me. Every walk arranged by Me. A blessing on all you do, on every interview.
Every meeting not a chance meeting, but planned by Me. All blessed."

How good to recall that when I'm tempted to hide away like a hermit while licking my wounds.

Oh wow. This morning was our breakfast here at Hobbit Cottage with two of my high school/church friends (and their traveling companions) and you'd never guess we'd not seen each other in 30 years. I thought of the song which says, "And friends are friends forever when the Lord's the Lord of them."

Tom has said at least three times so far, "That was such a nice visit."

And it was.

All of our neighbors even mowed their lawns yesterday, nobody parked in front of our big dining room window and the sun came from behind the clouds and sparkled all over the yellow trees--all special requests from me to God which He beyond-kindly answered.

Of course, all went well even though I didn't paint the short wall of our living room or the trim around the front door or the back of the entertainment center behind Blue Boy or -- No, God told me on Thursday, "Relax. Cease all the 'doing'," and oh, that sounded like good advice and you know? Our friends, old and new, commented sweetly upon my decorating and with kindness noticed only the good stuff inside and out.

God is good.

I so appreciate your kind words after my last post, in ways which go beyond what you're aware of. I'll not go into detail, but trust me, your kindness felt very, very good.

I like the Scripture you included, about how there are no chance meetings, and then you met and chatted with the old gentleman out walking his dog.
