You know that I don't have any grandchildren, right? Nor does my only child plan on having any, nor does she live in my same state.
My house is tiny (relatively). I'm surrounded by snow and am without a car on weekdays, though that will change on Monday when Tom leaves for seven weeks on another South African business trip. But then, I'll be here without him.
I don't have a college degree, a real job, a cute body, a desire to travel, a dog or lots of money.
Some people feel sorry for me. (Silly, clueless people. Tsk. Tsk.)
But honestly? I feel like the richest woman in the world. For I have God, the lover of my soul. And I am complete in Him.
Complete: ' having all necessary parts. Not lacking anything. Not limited in any way.'
Yes, that's how career-less ol' me feels today while sitting here in my tiny, snow-surrounded, no-car-outside house. Rich, complete. And though God is plenty, He's given me even more(!)
Like, a 36-year marriage to the sweetest guy on Earth, a caring, kind daughter, a ton of beautiful books, two cats who make us laugh, the promise of soon-coming springtime, earlier light in the mornings and large windows gleaming with sunlight.
A warm home, candles burning in the fireplace, friendships I can't even keep up with, cool music like my life's soundtrack, good memories galore, a writing ability, a home-keeping heart and a perfect, forever Heaven to anticipate.
It's the lovely things I've trained my mind to see first, to linger upon. Go doing that and instead of hanging your head and dreading certain days, you'll feel rich everyday. Complete, lacking in nothing, unlimited.
I hope you daily experience that type of wealth, as well.

Oh, they are warm. I wear my red one around the house and the dark blue one to the supermarket on Saturday mornings. Took them about a month to arrive (I knew that going in), but they were well-worth the wait.

Awesome post, as always! The only thing I don't understand is not having a dog. Just kidding. Not really. Debra, I read you everyday because of your contentedness. While the world says "more", you say "less". It just sits well with me. Thanks again for being so....normal. :)
Debra, just loved this post!!!! It's all about contentment and accepting God's mercies and grace. Such a wonderful reminder - and oh how I love that verse (Phil 4:8-9) - it's one of my very favorites.
Just read that Tom has flown away again. Prayers for you both.
