The Morning After

"Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through
Him who loved us."  ... Romans 8:37

**********

The alarm sounded this morning and from bed I flicked on the local tv news with the remote and saw that President Obama won the election.

The world still was spinning. The moon still hung in the black sky.

Our house still stood and my kitchen radio still played Andy Williams while I later dished-up the cats' breakfast (because they still needed to eat).

God was still God. Still good, too.

He was still huge and He still flooded my heart with the passes-understanding kind of peace.

But oh dear.... at Facebook!

Some of my Christian friends had placed their everything upon Mitt Romney so--when he lost the election--they lost their everything. Their peace. Their joy (which equates to strength in the Bible) and all their hope for the good plan God said He has for them in Jeremiah 29:

"For I know the plans I have for you," says the Lord. "They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope."

Some friends were (shockingly) bitter and their hatred for our President and those who voted for him spilled messily all over my home page. Oh my!

Are there two types of Christianity out there? Two Gods? One who tells us to place all our Trust and Hope Eggs into human baskets and another one who tells us this?:

"Do not put your trust in princes,
Nor in a son of man, in whom there is no help.
His spirit departs, he returns to his earth;
In that very day his plans perish.

Happy is he who has the God of Jacob for his help,

Whose hope is in the Lord his God,
Who made heaven and earth,
The sea, and all that is in them;
Who keeps truth forever,
Who executes justice for the oppressed,
Who gives food to the hungry.
The Lord gives freedom to the prisoners."  ... from Psalm 146

Well, I'm certain there's only one God (with three parts to Him).

And I'm thinking He wants just one type of Christianity--the type which realizes His ways are not ours. They are higher and so we must rise higher in our thinking, our believing, our trusting, our hoping. We must place all those Trust and Hope Eggs in God's basket, instead.

They will remain safe there.

"I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people— for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness."   ... 1 Timothy 2:1,2

"Why are you downcast, O my soul? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God." – Psalm 43:5

Oh, I watched the most interesting documentary at Netflix yesterday. It's called Frontline: Digital Nation.  F-a-s-c-i-n-a-t-i-n-g. At least, I thought so.  In fact, today I watched it a second time (loving it just as much), this time with Tom who pronounced it awesome.

My dearly-loved and often-remembered grandfather would have turned 107 today. Wow. Just wow.

Another good place to donate funds to help those who were affected by Hurricane Sandy? Hand of Hope, via Joyce Meyer Ministries.  Took me only a minute to donate.

This is a great post and I hope your Republican friends will read it, that many, many people will read it. There's a lot of respect in your words and I thank you for it.

Thought the picture at the top of this article was very appropriate today. No matter what, NOTHING will happen to us without HIS ok. We know our destination. HE will get us there, in due time. Meanwhile, we can be assured of HIS help with whatever comes. We always have prayers at hand and certainly our country will need more of them. (Regardless of who won). People often forget that the "heart of the King is in the Hand of the LORD!!"

Such a good post, Debra....I wish more people thought as you do. You expressed their difficulty very clearly. But I must say, I am not happy with all the people on both sides who have manipulated the American people to put us so at odds with one another. I was terribly emotionally about it all at one point, myself and then saw a poster on facebook which said something like, "No matter who wins, the Lutheran Ladies Relief group will keep on quilting." That calmed me down quickly! Like a kind little miracle.

I do love the photo of your dear grandparents. I was very close to my mother's parents who lived very near us. My grandfather would have been 120 this November 11th. He was always very proud of his birthday being on Armistice Day as it was called then.

Also people who switch churches when the pastor leaves just so they can go to where he is now. I have even heard a preacher denounce people for that and he was who they were leaving for! We are not there for the pastor. I can't say I was not deeply disappointed with this election and also the many local propositions most of which were voted the opposite from what we thought best for the country. Yet even if the election had gone differently how to we know what would have happened in the next 4 years? We can still have hope and keep this administrations in prayer like we would any other administration. Also over worrying and discontent gets us no where! It just wastes our time and energy.
There will never not be things in the world to worry about. Here on earth no place is perfect. We can all do our little part to help...in our own little corner of America. Thanks for the thoughts Debra. Sarah

I understand your comments, scriptures, and where you are coming from. I think many people had lost hope. And with the arrogance of the new administration are thinking the last 4 years have hit us hard and how do we take another 4? You have set yourself up well. Spending less, buying a smaller home, you were thinking ahead and that was so wise. Many are not geared that way. Life is from pay check to pay check and once you start on that merry go around it is hard to get off. Let's just all pray for each other. That God will give each of us what we need at the time.
