Ready For a Break

Remember when I wrote that I wished summer would stay so I could keep puttering in my yard?

I am so over that.

Today while mowing and raking, (and mowing and raking), our tiny yard felt enormous, I felt old and I dreamed of some glorious future day in a different house/apartment when we'll have only a concrete patio with painted pots of flowers.

Oh yeah. This aging lady can see it now. And you know? I like the changes God is making in me. I went from being a young woman who had to own certain things in order to 'keep up with The Jones',' to being middle-aged and just wanting some boxes of books, a computer and a simple place to live and decorate.

So give me simplicity and bring on winter. But please, with more peeks of the sun than we've had this past week. Too many pea soup skies and things get a bit dicey inside my head. :)

"There is a time for everything,
and a season for every activity under the heavens:

a time to be born and a time to die,

a time to plant and a time to uproot,
a time to kill and a time to heal,
a time to tear down and a time to build,
a time to weep and a time to laugh,
a time to mourn and a time to dance,
a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them,
a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing,
a time to search and a time to give up,
a time to keep and a time to throw away,
a time to tear and a time to mend,
a time to be silent and a time to speak,
a time to love and a time to hate,
a time for war and a time for peace."   ... Ecclesiastes 3:1-8

Good gracious.... the wisdom in all that! How many times have we all heard (or even said) the opposite of some of those. You know.... "Never give-up." "War is always wrong." "It's always wrong to kill." "Dancing is a sin." "Some things we must never throw away." "We should always be able to say (blog) anything we want."  How many people never accept--or recover from--the death of a loved one? ....

(And then how many times do we wonder why our world is all messed-up?)

But oh... balance! How we so need blessed, sanity-saving balance.

"Be well-balanced (temperate, sober of mind), be vigilant and cautious at all times; for that enemy of yours, the devil, roams around like a lion roaring [[a]in fierce hunger], seeking someone to seize upon and devour."   ... 1 Peter 5:8

"I felt old and dreamed of when I will only have a concrete patio with pots of flowers.".....you're so funny, Debra....'cause I think the same thing! I'm ready for winter because we still have good weather here and we have oppressive heat all summer. But I don't care much for the time change and the darkness. I feel for you with those long, cold winter nights. Never liked them as a kid in WNY.

Wonderful post Debra. I think I'm about ready for an apartment with a concret patio and pots of flowers too, LOL! But I know in my heart of hearts, I'm really not there yet.
Moderation and balance...the keys to peaceful living.
Hugs!

We're just heading into summer but I must admit that we slipped back this weekend with a couple of days that seem more wet and wintery.

I am with you Debra, I have a much smaller yard now than I did, but sometimes it is too much!

Hmm, maybe one of those "daylight" lamps would help. You can sometimes get them from Michael's at 40-50% off. We got one for using with my sewing machine to help me see better. I seem to feel good sewing under that lamp too. Though I do not notice that dark days depress me. Just a thought...
