October This and That

Another Tuesday with Debra.  ツ

1.) Am I still happy that we ripped out our 100 feet of hedges? Well, you decide. Every time I step outside our red front door, this is me on the inside--

2.) Speaking of that, walking back from the Salvation Army drop-off last week, our neighbor 6-doors-down practically burst out his front door and said, "Your yard looks great now that the hedges are gone."

We chatted all friendly-like, I thanked him, then nearing home I thought, "Hmm. I've never noticed that guy before in my life, but he certainly knew who I was."

So note to self! Always remember: God is watching that I behave--and so are the neighbors.

3.)  Gee, I hope you're using Rakuten (formerly Ebates). It's truly like getting paid to shop. After Rakuten paid me last time, I bought two pairs of new leggings from Ebay for just $5.50, total. Gotta love that price in our 2019 world.

4.) Ok, I've mentioned this before, but is anyone else enjoying A Very Brady Renovation from HGTV? Each episode feels like a sweet, customized gift from God just for me. (No, truly. Happy sigh. My quirky vintage longings, satisfied. )

The end credits flash and always, my mouth feels stiff, crooked, after holding a huge smile the entire hour.

5.) Remember how I have Aldi deliver fresh groceries to my front porch each week? Well, if you're unfamiliar with Aldi, Kathryn will show you the thrill she gets from shopping there. Here you go!

6.)  Woo hoo! Tom and I, (appreciators of Life's simple pleasures), are elated that our tv shows are back. Here are our Top 9 favorites:

1.) Chicago Fire
2.) Blue Bloods
3.) FBI
4.) The Rookie
5.) The Good Doctor
6.) Chicago Med
7.) Hawaii 5-0
8.) Chicago PD
9.) Magnum P.I.

7.) I'd not had an adventure for some months so last Friday, via a taxi, I took Sam The Cat to a nearby vet. (My exciting life, right?) But hey, the cab driver drove like a maniac, so there was that.

Anyway, Naomi usually drives Sam to a farther-away vet, but she's moved, has a new job and now's unable to. So here's to more regularly scheduled adventures for good ol' Debra.

8.)  Is this adorable, or what?

9.) Gee, we've had many grey, cloudy days lately and, whoa Nellie! All the times I've needed to remind myself that "greater is He who is in me..." and of powerful quotes like this--

That, and all the lamps I've kept burning bright.  ツ (P.S. Each of us must, personally, find what works--and we can! We're not helpless, you know.)

10.)  Saturday morning felt a bit like Christmas! I emptied my closet of Spring and Summer clothing, then opened my drawers and had a reunion with my much-planned-out Autumn and Winter clothes. I gave each an appreciative little pat while I hung them on hangers.

Don't you love it when you put extra effort into a project and then, later, reap rewards, making your life simpler, more enjoyable?

And I'll leave you with this which convicted me to the moon and back. (Yikes!) 😶

Golly, I've missed you Debra. I'm going to have to go back and see if I missed a post while we were traveling because it seems like a long time since I've visited with you.
Lots of gems today, as always. I love that your neighbor knew who you are. In this world of not knowing the people living right next door, it's good to have moments like that. I'm also glad that there are no regrets in taking down the bushes. Although it's not an irreversable decision, it wouldn't be easy to replant! :-)
I keep forgetting to watch out the Very Brady Renovaton. Maybe tomorrow I'll have time to check it out. I hope it's "On Demand". The only TV show that we really love is NCIS. In fact, at work the ladies that work for him call him Gibbs both because he's like a Dad to them and he always seems to be able to make things right. A good thing for sure.
We've had SO many cloudy days and snow already. I was fighting it with all of my being, not ready to give up on warmer weather, when I had a grand epiphany that I can't change it so I may as well snuggle in. I brought out all of the knitted blankets that we snuggle under while watching TV and washed them. Found my vanilla and apple wax melts for the warmer and decided to try to enjoy the coziness as much as possible.
I hope you have a wonderful week my dear friend.
Many Blessings,
Betsy

Your post is filled with good things. I like how the renovation TV show and the removal of your gigantic hedge makes you smile. Autumn is truly here, I bought a large orange punkin and turned on my heat for the first time this season. Just for 2 hours in the morning. As your Scripture says, forgiveness is not just an option for Christians, it is commanded by Jesus. Not optional, sometimes not easy though.

Debra, I was happy to see your post pop up in my emails this morning! You've been busy. I've been trying to prepare for fall/winter, too. Our weather keeps bouncing between warm and cold, so I haven't been able to pack away the summer things yet. Thank goodness for storage containers, but I have to admit, the quote that convicted you, "I don't want my legacy to be storage containers of stuff," nudged me, too. In fact, about a week ago, I was visiting with a couple of old friends, and they were talking about how they've started going through their homes, and keeping only those things that they absolutely need or love. They got tired of excess--because there is a weight to be carried. We all laughed and remarked how quickly our kids would toss our stuff into dumpsters. Two of those gals got together and had a HUGE garage sale and made the whole process a lot of fun. Now they have more space and I bet they made a bundle! I'm not quite ready to purge that deeply, but I'm thinking about it...

Betsy--that's so sweet that you missed me! Thank-you for letting me know and I'm glad you're cozy inside during you early winter weather--oh my!

Terra--I'm glad you liked my good things post! May you continue to enjoy your autumn. It's such a fleeting season so it's wonderful when we can sit back and enjoy it for it's beauty.

Hi Pam! Thanks for letting me know you were happy to see this post and for telling me about your friends who are decluttering. I've been having such similar thoughts--maybe it's this age we all find ourselves at? I know what makes a difference for me is thinking that I don't want Naomi to have to deal with tons and tons of our stuff. Oh my. :)

Thanks so much, Everyone! Blessings, Debra
