The Secret That Changed Everything For Me

"For God is not a God of confusion, but of peace."
“I am the Lord your God, who teaches you what is best for you, who directs you in the way you should go. "   --- 1 Corinthians 14:33, Isaiah 48:17

So last year a well-known evangelist took a survey as to whether he should continue writing at his blog. As I knew would happen, he received a thousand replies. Most folks said,

"Yes! Continue writing."
Yet others said, "End it."
And "Maybe temporarily close it? Return to it later?"
Also, "Write in it fewer times each week."
Or,"Get someone to help you."
And, "Do what you believe is best."

Good gracious!

Me? I rolled my eyes, then clicked to a new blog while thinking, "Sheesh! Why didn't he just ask God? God gives only one answer, the personalized, right one, not a bunch of confusion-causing ones."

Perhaps you've noticed I (generally) don't ask my readers what I should do with my life.

I mean, hey. Of course I love all 120+ of you, but I prefer simplicity over hundreds of varying answers.

The Holy Spirit, my oh my, is Mr. Simplicity. What matters most is that I listen to Him.

Oh, He may lead me to a book. A vlogger. A movie, teacher, song, memory, map, website or friend. But never all in one tiny time period, never each with contradicting advice. No, that would whisk me away to figuring things out. To confusion.

The Holy Spirit never leads me there. If I'm confused, it's certainly not His fault(!)

Why mention this? Because with our huge upcoming move, simplicity will remain vital. How easy, how average/typical to make one's head spin (and achy) during a life change!

Instead, Tom and I will calmly, daily, ask God for wisdom. For His personalized answers and where to find any information we need.

Basically, we live our everyday life this way so why wander from that?

Now, here was an uplifting, fun movie:  Savannah Sunrise. Tom and I enjoyed it much. No cautions even worth mentioning on this one.  ツ

Another movie? A Father's Legacy. Now, it took me 15 minutes to decide whether to continue, but I'm grateful I did. Christian themes, but there is violence and a small smattering of language.

Why share movie recommendations? Because too many Christians online quip, "They don't make good movies anymore!" Basically, that's a lie (sorry, but it is), so I'm out to spread truth, instead.

Good idea. We rarely ask people for advice on what to do in an important, (or not so important), decision. Instead we turn to God who always, always has our best in mind.
We had SO MANY decisions last year when we moved from Washington to Nebraska. The fact that we had conflicting emotions about the move didn't help. We never planned to come back here and loved the Northwest. But we DID want to be near family, especially Mandy. We asked God and He actually provided the perfect home for us at a ridiculously low price. His hand was all over it. So here we are.
I'll be praying for you and Tom too.
Blessings my friend,
Betsy

God answers all our prayers . . . sometimes not the answer someone wanted, but the best one for each person. And He may not answer for a while, so patience is that virtue that's spoken of so often. Keeping you guys in prayer, Debra! Thanks for more movie recommendations! Blessings!

I do ask God for direction, he is faithful to answer. Thanks for your movie suggestions, sometimes the best movies get overlooked. I am excited for you to be moving to Florida, that is a state that is going in a good direction.

I'll give God all the credit for helping us with our recent move. As I get closer to 70, there are some physical things that are more difficult for me now. I literally prayed for God to help us with decisions, and all the "heavy work." And He did! He sent us answers and help, as needed. I kept thinking, "When I am weak, He is strong!" Sometimes we're more apt to pray for the big things, but he specializes in all things and really wants to help us. You and Tom are very wise to lean on Him.

Sandi--thanks so much! We sound like we're often on the same page.

Betsy--the story of your move really is inspiring! I'm sure I'll often think of it as we prepare to move, ourselves, next year.

Diana and Terra--thanks for mentioning the movie recommendations! I always like sharing them but often wonder if they ever lead anyone to actually watch. heh. :) And thank-you for your good wishes about our upcoming move!

Pam--Your recent move also inspires me! I'm glad you had all the help you needed and thanks for letting me know how things were going. I'm sure you're enjoying your new place!

Thanks so much, Everyone. Blessings, Debra
