" ... all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be." ... Psalm 139:16
******
That book God wrote about us! I keep thinking about it, especially after hearing that--in Heaven--we can read each others' books.
Yikes! Makes one think, right? (There's probably no yawning in Heaven, but wouldn't it be dreadful if the first yawn happened while someone read our book?) シ
Also? I believe we'll travel in Heaven with friends, old and new, to coffee shops, parks, fairs, etc., and while there, we'll share our Adventures Of Life On Earth With God. You know, reminiscent of this:
Come and see the wonders of God;
His acts for humanity are awe-inspiring.
6 He turned the sea into dry land,
and they crossed the river on foot.
There we rejoiced in Him.
7 He rules forever by His might;
He keeps His eye on the nations.
... from Psalm 66
Perhaps we and our friends will sit beside each other and begin those stories rather like this--
"I so enjoyed using the gifts God gave me to encourage folks and see them being set free!"
"Oh, those missions trips I took! How awesome to see God move as He did."
"Remember the anticipation of beautiful Springtimes and Autumn and vacations, reunions with loved ones and church potlucks?"
"Wasn't it incredible how much a smile could mean to strangers? Or paying for their coffee or meals?"
"Remember praising God and being changed? And the way good teachings/books/sermons could change our whole attitude about problems?"
"And the tangible presence of Jesus! Toward the end, I wasn't physically able to do much, but oh, He still gave me great joy. With Him, I felt increasing strength on the inside."
See, I'd love to contribute to those conversations. But oh dear, what if all I could add was stuff like this?
"Well, on Earth I remember complaining about my problems. A lot."
"Then there were the years I was mad at God because ____ contracted a disease."
"The weather down there was hardly ever perfect, right?"
"Diets and taxes and exercise--bleh!"
"People could be so annoying. It was hard to love them."
"Most days seemed grey because of worry. Discouragement. Anger. Fear."
Heaven. Forbid.
Once we reach Heaven our history on Earth will be completed. What we must be satisfied with for, like, eternity. By then it'll be too late for any do-overs.
But today--let the do-overs begin! At least the ones I still can. May I further work on completing my God-designed destiny and legacy.
For hey, I don't want my book in Heaven to be dull (or pathetic) and I'm, even now, anticipating adding my godly adventure stories to those which will swirl around me in that Heavenly bright light.
"The thief comes only in order to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance [to the full, till it overflows]." ... John 10:10 (But are we living in what Jesus died to give us?)
If, as Christians, we're as bummed-out, angry and dark-thinking as the secular world, well, something is wrong--and God longs to fix it!
One reason we can take no treasured items with us to Heaven? They would only look like trash in comparison to what awaits us.
Oh! Almost forgot to share this video I found at Youtube early this morning: I Want To Stroll Over Heaven With You.
Love those photos! Also, the thought that, as long as these people knew Jesus, they're together again in Heaven at this moment.

One last thing: It matters, Folks. How we lived as Christians on Earth will matter in various important ways when we reach Heaven.

"For if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you, but if you do not forgive others their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses." ... Matthew 6:14,15
Well, that's an interesting concept that I haven't pondered on before. My own book. I'll have to think about that one! :-) . My life does seem boring as I do much the same things day after day, but I truly try not to complain too much and to be busy at home doing what I can with my physical capabilities.
ReplyDeleteI like the idea of sitting with others in Heaven, remembering the good things about our life here. But I also like to thing we'll be so busy with our new life that we won't care about what happened here. Won't it be fun to learn what it's really like?
Wishing you a wonderful day Debra.
Blessings,
Betsy
I love Psalm 139:16! The fact that God knew how many days I would live, before I was even born, has reassured me while struggling with cancer. It reminds me that illness does not define me or determine the number of my days; God has already decided how my life will unfold. Hallelujah!!! Like Betsy already said, the idea that we're writing our own book is new to me, and it is wonderful that the Holy Spirit revealed this to you, Debra! It does my heart such good to ponder what heaven will be like. Truly, the best is yet to come!!!! Thank you, Debra, for this incredibly uplifting post!
ReplyDeleteWhat an awesome, thought provoking post ... I loved it! I'm afraid that my book might be one that induces yawns too (Ha! Ha!) Thank you for all of the effort you put into your blog posts, they are really appreciated and so are you!
