Guess who appeared on the front porch of Hobbit Cottage yesterday and rang the bell?
Beezus and Ramona Quimby.
Oh my goodness! Two Real Life identical twins to Beverly Cleary's literary sisters stood before me and I felt charmed out of my head. I enjoyed buying a box of school candy while listening to their cute banter spoken within their own separate world:
Ramona: "I should have worn my Brownie shirt."
Beezus: "Why? I'm the one selling candy today."
Always I purchase whatever children sell at my door. If I don't have time or money to encourage these little ones in their endeavors, what do I have time or money for?
And well, call me crazy, but as I later watched these girls step up to my neighbor's door, I thought of all my friends who've gone ballistic about the government shut-down, blood boiling through their veins.
What a classic "worries of the world" thing! Something designed to distract us, keep us in Worried and Angry Mode and choke all the trust in God's providential care for those who love Him.
Yesterday I found myself whew! Grateful that my eyes aren't seeing red, for I might have missed recognizing those darling Quimby Girls out there upon my porch and my responsibility to give and show kindness toward them.
And woe unto me if I spend the majority of my life missing Heaven-sent things because I was too upset to see them.

Debra, I think everyone needed this post today.
ReplyDeleteOh, I needed to hear this today! The government in so immature I'm ready to scream. :( Our daughter moved out on Sunday night to be nearer to college so we are Empty Nesters. Ugh! On the *very* bright side, our son and daughter-in-law gave a toast at our family gathering on friday night and announced that they are going to have a baby! But...they are moving with the Air Force come the new year. I need to count my blessings and not turn to chocolate for solace! lol. Keep up the encouraging words, Debra!
ReplyDeleteVery good Debra !
ReplyDeleteThank you, Debra! I try to recognize angels unaware, and grace standing before me, but I struggle with not getting upset. I think I'm going to not turn on the car radio. Yesterday I arrived at my daughter's house to babysit in tears half of sorrow and half or rage. I should deal with such things better, but I seem not to.
ReplyDeleteAnd I'm not even saying which political party made me so beside myself. Neither of them are worth it.
