I keep forgetting to tell you this.

In our area, there's a family-run dairy which still delivers milk in glass bottles to your door from their old-fashioned milk trucks.  For 80 years they've been in business.

Can you believe that?

So when we move out to the country into our 130-year-old farmhouse we're going to sign-up the milkman to come to our house to deliver our milk in bottles as well as eggs, cheese and butter.

I'm sharing that because I know it will make my old-fashioned kindred spirits smile.

And when you hear people say that The Good Old Days are forever gone, you can say, well no, not quite!

Tom and Debra have a real-live milkman.  ツ

  1. So glad you shared...it's sounds wonderful. I relish that time when children played outside instead of in front of a TV and Mom's were able to stay home and be Mom's. I'm so thankful to have grown up in that era, and to have been able to stay home with my children. Financially it would have been beneficial for me to work, but it was a decision we shared for me to stay home. I never regret it.
Sorry to ramble on ... :)

  2. Hmmm, where did you say your new old house was again? I ask because I'm thinkin' I just might want to be your neighbor! :)

I buy my raw cream in glass bottles, but then I re-use those bottles and take my raw milk to work in them. Everyone who sees me take my milk to the refrigerator always makes a comment on it. It is rare, indeed.

  4. What a wonderful thing to hear! Delivery of milk in bottles. Amazing.

Be happy you can consume the products of this wonderful dairy, though. I've finally been tested for, and found that I am lactose intolerant. Which sounds sad.

But believe me, it has made such a wonderful change {for the better} in my quality of life, that it simply isn't sad for me. I just wish I'd been tested for LI, back when my {very uncomfortable} symptoms began!

But, I was finally tested and now know and that's what counts.

    Enjoy your home delivery!

I have an old fashioned milk box on my front porch, but alas its milk bottles are empty.

  7. Hmmm. I'm just curious.

Is today the day you are moving (june 12)?

    I'm praying.

    Moving is HARD work.

But, like most hard work, it IS rewarding!

    Enjoy that reward, Debra!

    Gosh how neat is that!

You know, I can still remember Mike, our long ago milkman. When Maola stopped delivering he went to work with Budweiser. My parents didn't/don't drink so we didn't see Mike any more.

Anyway, reading about the milkman delivering y'all bottles of milk made my heart smile. And gave me hope that one day, maybe, we'll find someone like that.

We made homemade ice cream last night in a old-fashioned hand-crank ice cream maker. Our way to young-to-remember-such-a-wonderful-treat darlings are still declaring it the greatest ice cream they have ever eaten. :o)

Oh but to get the ice we went to the "little village" near us and bought ice from the old ice and coal company rather than just running up the street to get the bag ice. When we stepped into the "office" it was like stepping back into my girlhood days. Such a thrill!

  10. Funny that you mention that if you expect you can find (see) it. That is what I believe.
Beauty and love are indeed out there if we have and expect them.

    I like milk BTW

  11. I love it! What a treat for you. We still get raw milk from a local farm - the only one left, but still going strong. And there are places in the two states next to us still making fresh butter. Same with cheese. These things are around, if people really want them.

  12. I remember Bud, the Schneider milkman who delivered our milk when we were kids in the early 70's! My sister and I always fought to see who got the cream at the top. What a fun thing for you to enjoy at your new place. Looking forward to more updates. MMMM!

  13. Debra, I am loving hearing about your move! I am waiting impatiently for you to post photos! I hope you'll take one of your first milk bottles on the porch.

I feel like I've been in on the adventure right along with you and feel more content just listening to how content you are in the little blessings of life. I'm so happy for you!
