"Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things... But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come."... Colossians 3:2, John 16:13

When I'm not hanging out in the great Throne Room of Heaven someday like a woman in love, singing and worshipping with you all, here's what, lately, I'm imagining I'll do-----
In Heaven? Tom will live next door to me. His mansion will scream Craftsman, mine, Victorian. Our neighbors will be Naomi and our favorite relatives and friends.
My cats wait for me there, perhaps even the mice I cared for and cried over at their passing. Lennon The Cat and I will sit on the 'Son porch' as we used to out at the farm when it nearly felt like Heaven came down upon us.
My mansion will have lots of small rooms (I like those), many with closed doors I'll slowly open over 'years' (there being no actual time in Heaven) so to be continually delighted, enchanted and grateful. All my rooms will be decorated in separate, unique styles, for I love so many different ones.
Two rooms will be largish, though. The one for entertaining friends, old and new, and another which will serve as my writing studio and library filled with bookshop-collected-books I'll give away to you. It'll also serve as a gathering room for anyone who wishes to listen as I read aloud the books I'm writing. A writer here on Earth, since our gifts are irrevocable (the Bible says), I'll also be a writer there.
A teacher, too, and perhaps I'll speak about gardening for, oh! There's a huge country-style flower garden in my backyard, complete with benches, one especially where I hope to often sit with Jesus Christ, Himself. (Joyful tears begin when I consider that part.)
There's a mysterious door out there, too, (you also have one), which I'll sneak through if I wish to slip away from the loving crowds. Where will my door lead? To a peaceful forest? A meadow? A city with Italian flare?
I suppose I'll have a kitchen, but oh Honey, I'm so glad we won't need to cook there (unless we're gifted to). Color me tired of it after 40+ years. No, our food will be made from light and will appear, poof! In front of us according to our current wish. No clean-up, either!
Tom and I will visit the surf park for he wants to try surfing for the first time. Having a polio'ed leg, he's never surfed here and with joy, I will watch him enjoy it.
We'll attend music concerts of our favorite Christian bands, the theater, amusement parks, coffee shops and stadium football games where both teams play as worship, trying to win the most points for their King. We'll climb mountains and stay in resorts.
I'll frequent classes at the expansive universities, for never do I tire of learning. How incredible to have questions answered, to be taught by anointed, fun teachers, some of whom wrote the books of the Bible, themselves!
How amazing that we'll never tire of anything in our new home place.
And how wonderful that even upon this earth we can live with such joy unspeakable and full of glory because of the One who died so that Heaven could be ours someday.
Where did I get some of these ideas? From the 'God College' classes He has me taking via Youtube in the wee morning hours, as well as in books about Heaven. And some just from my own anticipatory imagination.
"They are to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share, thus storing up treasure for themselves as a good foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of that which is truly life." ... 1 Timothy 6:18,19
"And the city has no need of sun or moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and its lamp is the Lamb. By its light will the nations walk, and the kings of the earth will bring their glory into it, and its gates will never be shut by day—and there will be no night there." ... Revelation 21:24,25

Ooooo... A couple rooms of my heavenly home will look just like this. (A lovely video. Be still my heart.)
Speaking of hospitality (were we?), here's a cool song Tom shared with me: Crowded Table. Many of you will love this. Love. This. ツ

"For if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you, but if you do not forgive others their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses." ... Matthew 6:14,15
It's always interesting to hear what others think Heaven will be like. As for me, I just know that having died once and been brought back, I did see others who were important to me during my brief time there. I do know that I didn't have the full experience because I was sent back here to finish this life I have been given. It will be wonderful. It will be undescribable in human terms. I saw a brief glimpse and I can't wait to return. It did make me unafraid of death. It has no hold over me anymore. Now, that's not to say I'm not concerned about the process of death and how it will happen. But death itself? Nope. Jesus is waiting for me.

🎶 I can only imagine!🎶
ReplyDeleteYOU, however, have taken imagination to a whole new level!!🙌😄🙌
Dreaming about heaven has to be one of the premiere benefits of Christ followers. Debra, that verse at the top of your post found in Colossians 3 is a strong directive for us. I need to take responsibility for where my mind dwells, for sure. It was fun reading your thoughts about heaven, and Betsy's out-of-this-world experience (literally and figuratively) blows me away. In the words of that old song, "...this world is not my home, I'm just passing through..." Praise God!
