Eegads.
If you think I've been whiny lately in my blog posts, you should see me at home. Well, no. You shouldn't.
Part of the problem? I've not been sleeping well due to my room not having a door and the cats jumping on my head to awaken me to feed them and Naomi's coming in late, climbing our creaking-like-shots-in-the-night stairs and my feeling shaken when someone dressed all in black steps past me in a dark room.
All that cheap real estate online in our area was looking mighty fine. Houses with bedrooms that had real doors! Of course, my dreams ignored all the hassle, incredible energy and expense of moving rather than just discovering a creative way to move myself back into that adorable little closet I'd wallpapered and once used as a bedroom.
It has a door. The cats can't get in.
It's pitch-black dark in there at night. Silent.
I love the simplicity, the calm blues and again, that wallpaper.
Oh, I used to sleep incredibly well in there and we all know how important that is, especially for us women of a certain age. And also? I needed my own daytime space where I can close a door behind me as a signal that I'd prefer to be in my own private world. For awhile. It is, as well, an awesome reading room.
Well, this morning after the fifth time Daniel the Cat leaped to my bed from the pony wall, I thought, "That does it! I'm moving back into the closet." And you know? That's when an idea came to me which would make the dreaded process, easier.
I'll spare you those details, though, and well, a couple (tiring)hours after beginning, my tiny closet bedroom came back together. Now, my poor former bedroom is still a wreck of hangers, boxes, suitcases, speakers and other things I'm not sure what the heck I'll do with, but at least I'll sleep well tonight inside my new digs.
And you know what came to me? Sometimes I (we?) feel grumpy and out-of-sync simply because we lost our creative energy someplace and substituted complaining energy, instead. And accomplished nothing.
But oh, how good it feels to get back up and recall the enormous creative power of God and, using His strength, lose ourselves in bursts of creativity once again.

Oh, someone may be wondering at our not having bedroom doors upstairs--and well--it's a long loft room with a middle closet and has no door to the stairs. It's meant to be one bedroom up there but, amazingly, I've made it into three. :)

I think having a space of our own is very important. It doesn't have to be big, but it needs to be private. I remember when you created your closet--it's so pretty. Hopefully, it will give you the peace, quiet and rest you need.
ReplyDeleteFun! I like your little closet room. Sometimes we just want time alone don't we? I have never had a bedroom of my own. Never. I shared with my sister until the day I married. And that's okay. My Hubby is the best roommate ever. :-). But sometimes it would be nice to have a place to hide and read with no interruptions at all.

Betsy
I haven't had a room of my own since I married nearly 24 years ago. One day, when all the kids have moved out, I'll have a room of my own to decorate as I please. :)
ReplyDeletePam--so true! I also believe we all need some space just for ourselves. A place where people know not to interrupt us until we come away. :) I'm so thankful to have such a place again!
ReplyDeleteBetsy and Tracey--oh! I hope you both at least have a corner, a bookcase, a place in your yard--anything like that--to where you can go just to be alone without interruptions. A place like that is priceless and I've always had one in some form or another, even if it wasn't a whole room. There's nothing like quiet and alone time with ourselves and God. It's amazing how we can daily come away from such a place feeling as though we've been on vacation! :)
Thanks, Everyone! Blessings, Debra
