Another Tragedy. What Should We Do?

"God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble."   ...Psalm 46:1

******

Jesus warned us. And warned us.

"For then there will be great distress, unequaled from the beginning of the world until now—and never to be equaled again.
“If those days had not been cut short, no one would survive, but for the sake of the elect those days will be shortened."   ...From Matthew 24

And yet? Still, people reel and question and fear when violence rages as it did in France. "Why do these tragic things keep happening?" they ask at Facebook, fearfully imagining it within their own city's walls some future night.

Even Apostle Paul ages ago said:

"But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come.  Men will be ... proud, blasphemers... unholy ... unforgiving ... without self-control, brutal, despisers of good,  traitors, headstrong, haughty ... having a form of godliness but denying its power."  ...  from 2nd Timothy 3:1-5

We are so there. And it's not getting better anytime soon, but should we panic and see our best days only in the Past? No. If we'll draw closer to God before Life's struggles worsen, the transition will be easier and Life can remain good, but only because He is.

I have friends who are finding comfort in their stash of guns. "Just let those terrorists come here and try that!" they declare. "I'll take them out after their first bullet flies."

But as for me? I will find my comfort in God. As has become my habit.

Oh, Tom and I are in the process (don't faint, ok?) of purchasing a shotgun in case America, in all her reaping, reverts to a new Wild West with roaming crazed people. But could I ever find peace or relief in an ability to wound or kill another human being?

Heaven forbid. The whole idea horrifies me. I'm leaving the gun details to Tom while I simultaneously ask God to reveal ways we could help more people in a Wild West Future.

Today, gunless, and aware of what Matthew 24 says, I am unafraid. Unshaken and standing strong. But only because the presence of the unshakable God holds me up.

He's always here. And always more than enough.

" ... the God of all comfort who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God."  2 Corinthians 1:3,4

"One thing have I asked of the Lord, that will I seek after: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord. For he will hide me in his shelter in the day of trouble; he will conceal me under the cover of his tent; he will lift me high upon a rock."   ... Psalm 27:4,5

"I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for you, Lord, only make me dwell in safety."   ...Psalm 4:8

I will both lie dow
