Zillions of people enjoy playing Monopoly or tennis or all those those electronic/digital/whatever games out there.
But here are the games I adore playing:
Vintage Homemaker
Rearranging Books
Daisy Cottage
(See why I'm not the most popular lady on the block? When you decide to be who you are and not someone else, you gain some things, but you lose some, also.)
Anyway. Yesterday I played Daisy Cottage by bringing up a tablecloth and checked curtain panel from the deep, dark basement, washing them, hanging them outside to dry, ironing them, placing both on our dining room table then replacing the glass top and adding some books.
Daisy Cottage, for me, is giddy-head fun.
Today, though, I may play Vintage Homemaker. How do you play that?
You apply your make-up while listening to retro music on an old radio then you get dressed and tie on an apron. You make coffee, browse through a vintage magazine (old music still playing) then set out meat to defrost or gather ingredients into a crockpot. You avoid tv news and the computer and, instead, go outside to putter in your garden, sweep your front porch or chat with a neighbor over the fence.
If you need to drive to the supermarket, you play your retro music on the car radio then--once at the store--you pretend it's 1960 and look around to find other ladies who might also be playing Vintage Homemaker. You gaze at their neat clothes and hair and imagine their orderly and old-fashioned homes and yards and the way workers enter their back doors, only, and dressing tables in bedrooms upstairs.
And then you drive home, put your groceries away, rest awhile with a vintage tv show or book then maybe iron while listening to game shows or clip coupons or wash dishes by hand. And you continue this way, keeping your thoughts upon doing whatever you must with a sweet attitude, a smile and a knowing that God does all things well and He's there to help you do the same, with a peaceful heart, even in 2014.
Vintage Homemaker is an awesome game, as well, and can be played more often than you've ever imagined.

If we have Jesus in our heart, we are no longer helpless or victims or doomed to a bad life!
"The thief comes only in order to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance (to the full, till it [a]overflows)." ... John 10:10

First thing this morning I read this email from our Window Guy:
"It must be a stress crack! I will reorder. All will be taken care of. We replace the whole insulated unit but keep the frame intact. Of course this is warrantied. I apologize. But now you know why they are called "stress" cracks .lol Regards, Mike"
Is that an awesome note, or what?

How fun! And I agree, the note is awesome! Glad it will be taken care of at no cost to you. :)
ReplyDeleteSuper cool post, Debra!
ReplyDeleteHappy for you in the coming window repair!! Tis fun to rearrange things...I used to do a lot of that too...now on a much smaller scale as hubby is not into that much!!

So glad your window will be taken care of so easily. The vintage housekeeping day is similar to days I often have.
ReplyDeleteAnother great post, Debra, and I love the look of your dining table. Your day sounded just "perfect" to me.
ReplyDeleteIn spite of my "let go of nostalgia" post today I still have a collection of easy listening music both vocal and instrumental(Perry Como, Percy Faith, Nat King Cole, 101 Strings, etc) that I will pull out and listen to when the mood strikes. There is nothing like this music. New Age music is close, but it's missing something romantic.
ReplyDeleteWell....that had just about the most pleasant outcome you would hope for!
