Still Reeling, Still Listening.

I took today off to 'grieve with those who grieve' and 'weep with those who weep', namely, our whole Country and many in the rest of the world. And to heal from this attack upon all of us, really-- our minds, our hearts, our sense of safety. I watched very little news and mostly read a light book and sat quietly and thought.

Some of you will not like what I was thinking, though.

See, another school shooting almost took place also on Friday. This one at a high school in Oklahoma, but the teenager (who'd planned to gather teens in the auditorium, chain the doors, start shooting, then set off bombs at the doors when the police arrived) was arrested early Friday morning, before 5 a.m.

Can you imagine if there had been two horrendous attacks in our Country on one day? Two such enormous tragedies? No, I can't either.

This is spinning out of control. And you know that one saying -- 'insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting to get different results'? Well, that's how I feel about the refusal to rewrite our gun laws. Our nation has changed--its people are not what they were decades ago, families do not live or believe as they once did--and I feel our 18th century gun laws must change to coincide with this new (sad) 21st century world.

Yes, parents need to step up and everybody needs to pay closer attention to everybody else's kids ... and on and on. And in some cases, those things work. But obviously, after the horror of yesterday in Connecticut, it's not nearly enough.

Remember these (shortened) verses?

"But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days.  People will be lovers of themselves .... abusive, disobedient to their parents.... unholy,  without love, unforgiving ... without self-control, brutal...  treacherous, rash...
They are the kind who ..... are loaded down with sins and are swayed by all kinds of evil desires, always learning but never able to come to a knowledge of the truth... They are men of depraved minds."  2 Timothy 3:1-8

At one Christian website, they linked this verse, below, to those when speaking of yesterday's school shooting tragedy:

"And there went out another horse that was red: and power was given to him that sat thereon to take peace from the earth, and that they should  kill one another: and there was given unto him a great  sword. "   ... Revelation 6:4

You'll get no argument from me about linking those verses together. And with these attacks happening weekly now, please don't ask me to blame chemical imbalances. We've moved too far beyond that... especially when, years ago, we shut the doors on God in our communities and thus opened other doors to demons.

Yes, I believe that. And I also believe portions of Revelation are happening now and will continue to unfold in the years to come. Only time will tell, of course... and in the meantime, I will keep running to God for the healing only He can give any of us who will seek Him with all our hearts.

He is truly our only hope.

Very well said Debra, we are in the last days and things are going to get worse and worse but we are called to praise and thank the Lord for His sacrifice on the cross so that we would not have to die there also and there is nothing that happens that we can't handle through God's grace and these are the times we need to step up and not be afraid to tell everyone around us about God's salvation just in case tomorrow we don't have the chance.

i'm so sad and sickened by it all ... winnipeg was the home (for 3 years) of one the families, until they moved back to their original home there - and their 6 year old daughter was a victim ... my sister knew the family ... so very sad ... the one spot that might lift the earthly pain, is that the family knew the ONE who's birth we will soon celebrate ... i'm so glad JESUS came, what would this old world of ours be like if He said "no, i'd rather not go down and live with 'them' - thank you very much ... " ...

(hugs)

"keep running to God"
I LOVE that.
I'd like to hold in my mind the image of every child in those two classrooms doing just that.
Running to God.

There will never be peace on earth until Christ comes again.

"He truly is our only hope." That I KNOW for sure and certain.

I was in shock on Friday and Saturday and just kept saying, "Are you kidding me??" Today, at the end of church our Pastor asked us to stay and pray with him. Then he had a man in our church, who is a police officer, give us some pointers on protecting ourselves. I have not stopped crying all afternoon. I also have some family issues going on, so the tears are for several reasons.

Going to get out all my cards and write handwritten notes to all my relatives to wish them a Merry Christmas.
